I have spent most of my professional life fighting to protect the right to vote around the world -- and most recently, here in the United States.

My election integrity work began at The Carter Center, where I was proud to work with former President Jimmy Carter. His steadfast determination to strengthen democracy worldwide remains an inspiration.

I know that voting is fundamental to a healthy democracy. It is how the people make their voices heard by our government and hold elected officials to account.

Can you split a donation between my campaign and Our American Dreams so we can keep up the fight for the right to vote in the Georgia State Legislature? Voter suppression disproportionately impacts communities that are already disenfranchised: communities of color, low-income communities, and immigrant communities.

Folks, the truth is, Republicans here in Georgia have made no secret of their attempts to suppress the vote. That's because they know that when more of us vote, Democrats win -- up and down the ballot.

What's happening here in our state scares me. In the lead-up to the 2018 midterms, hundreds of polling places were shuttered and over a million people were purged from the voter rolls -- nearly 10% of registered voters.

In our primary elections this year, long lines and broken machines kept many from voting during a pandemic.

I haven't seen our Republican governor or secretary of state take any substantive measures to ensure that our elections run more smoothly.

We can fight their disgraceful tactics in the courts, and there are activists working to do just that. But we can also fight back at the ballot box. We need every registered voter to cast a ballot in this year's elections, and we need to elect leaders who will protect and expand voting access.

Our American Dreams is working to do just that, and I'm so proud to be one of their endorsed candidates. This year, we have to flip control of our state house so we can finally end the GOP's legacy of voter suppression.
