The Republicans in each House are all generally pro-gun and there are a few Democrats that have stood with us in spite of fervent pressure from their anti-gun colleagues. Just to preserve the current split, pro-gunners must win 4 races in the Senate and the antis have targeted pro-gun incumbents and are trying to flip one more.
In the Assembly, the anti-gun Dems are trying to flip three pro-gun seats and the pro-gun Reps are trying to flip 5 seats held by antis. There is a race of particular interest to GOC that pits the Chairman of the outrageously Leftist Assembly Public Safety Committee – Democrat Reggie Jones-Sawyer against fellow Democrat Efren Martinez, a former U.S. Marine. Quite literally, almost anyone would be better than Jones-Sawyer.
As the chair of the committee that hears all gun-related bills, he has been fiercely anti-gun – voting to restrict our freedoms and staying silent when GOC was publicly accused of having blood on our hands because we defended your gun rights. His opponent, however, has expressed support for the 2nd Amendment, and while his allegiance to the Constitution remains vague, we firmly believe his door would be open to some solid 2A conversations. Keeping tabs on districts such as the 59th will better serve us – and you – as we lobby on behalf of our constitutionally guaranteed rights. This race could send shockwaves throughout the Capitol and we can be part of that.
Educating and spreading the word to our members and supporters in these marginal districts is a huge priority! Even if we are only able to make a difference in a few seats, our involvement provides cover and leverage when dealing with legislators that are on the fence with the 2nd Amendment. It’s absolutely key in letting them know the 2nd Amendment is alive in the people of California – regardless of what the media and the radical Left says.
