John,
Social Security is on the ballot this Election Day―and not just at the Presidential level.
Just over the weekend, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham explained his approach to “saving” Social Security―cutting benefits:
"We got to save Social Security. And the way you save it, is if you can afford to take a little bit less, do it."
Unfortunately for Lindsey, he wasn’t spewing nonsense unchallenged on the Senate floor. He was at a debate with Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison. Harrison gets it:
"Well, one way that you save Social Security, is not by eliminating the payroll tax right now [...] because as the actuary mentioned, it would wreck this program."
Cutting Social Security benefits doesn't save it―the threat is coming from the White House! As the Chief Actuary of Social Security wrote,1 if Trump's defunding scheme goes forward as Trump promised, Social Security will be completely unable to pay benefits in 2023!
Today, 100% of donations go DIRECTLY to elect Jaime Harrison and defeat Lindsey Graham! Chip in $7 today!
South Carolina voters must have liked Harrison’s answer―because today the Cook Political Report moved SC-Sen into the “tossup” category.2 Lindsey Graham hasn’t led a poll by more than 1% since July.3 This is a race we can win.
We know that when seniors vote on Social Security, we can defeat the right-wing, long held goal of cuts and privatization.
Donate today to replace Lindsey Graham and send a Social Security Champion to the U.S. Senate who will fight back against Donald Trump’s scheme to defund and destroy the program.
The last time South Carolina voted to send a Democrat to the Senate was 22 years ago. In this change election, we have a chance to flip a Senate seat blue for six years and elect a U.S. Senator who will work with us to expand, never cut, Social Security.
Thank you,
Michael Phelan Social Security Works PAC
