** A Message from our Executive Director
------------------------------------------------------------
Art leaders, advocates, educators, and parents - let us celebrate National Arts in Education Week! In 2010, Congress identified the second week of September as an opportunity for arts education supporters to formally acknowledge the impact of the transformative power of the arts in education. This week aligns with the kickoff of Art in Action's training season, as we welcome the stream of school coordinators and docents coming through our doors each day. AiA programs' impact on our children is evident, as I listen to stories from grateful docents who believe that arts education is essential in their child's development.

** Judy Sleeth Scholarship Recipients Announced
------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to our founder, Judy Sleeth, and our generous donors, this year's Scholarship Fund will make a difference in the lives of over 400 children and teens at six under-resourced schools throughout the country beginning this month. With their help, we raised $22,000 to provide these students with the arts education they deserve.

We're grateful to Judy and her devoted selection committee who carefully reviewed the 35 powerful and compelling applications received.

** Yarn Bombed Wish Tree Kit is Launched
------------------------------------------------------------

IT’S FINALLY HERE! Last week, we officially launched our highly anticipated Yarn Bombed Wish Tree Kit for families and small groups! Building on Yoko Ono’s concept of Wish Trees the project combines the magic of wish making with the whimsy of yarn bombing and is beautifully tied together with a delightful tale shared in Katherine Applegate’s book Wishtree.

The kit includes all materials, project directions, and the Wishtree book. The kits are selling fast!

P.S. The Yarn Bombed Wish Tree for classrooms and large groups will be available in November.

** Teacher/Parent Volunteer Training is in Full Swing
------------------------------------------------------------

We extend a huge thanks to all of our thousands of volunteers made up of school coordinators, docents, and assistants from 32 states across the country.

This year’s training includes live streaming of each grade level (stay tuned for details), our new Wish Tree kits for families and small groups available for purchase, and a sneak peek into the new curriculum that will be available in the spring of 2020.

There is still time if you need to sign up or see the schedule for all program-level training dates. Custom training at your school site is also available for teachers/docents at an additional cost.

** New Opportunity - STEAM for Girls
------------------------------------------------------------

Recently, Art in Action was awarded a generous grant from the Junior League of Palo Alto & the Mid-Peninsula. Funding will support the development, testing, piloting, and packaging of our new STEAM lessons with a select group of girls in local Title I schools. Additionally, we have been invited to participate in an all-girl, Art Forward STEM Hackathon community event in conjunction with Oracle OWL's (Oracle Women Lead) and the Junior League. We look forward to sharing our progress in this unique partnership.
