Friend,

Amy Coney Barrett is a threat to religious freedom. Her record shows that she will not uphold our constitutional promise of religious freedom for all, which requires keeping religion and government separate.

Despite the Senate cancelling regular business until October 19th because of a COVID-19 outbreak among its members, the Senate Judiciary Committee still plans to hold hearings on Barrett’s confirmation next week - in a Zoom call!

Amy Coney Barrett supported allowing religious gatherings in Illinois despite the COVID-19 public health threat. She thinks your boss’ religious beliefs can determine whether insurance pays for your birth control. She supports forcing students to pray in public school.

Barrett’s views on these and other church-state separation issues will have serious consequences. On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court began a new term in which it will hear multiple, significant cases involving religious freedom. Two conservative justices took the opportunity to harshly criticize the Obergefell ruling that provided marriage equality to LGBTQ people – a ruling Barrett has also criticized.

That ruling is five years old. But Barrett has indicated that she thinks legal precedent can be overruled in some circumstances. What else is at stake? Taxpayer funding for other people’s religious education? A license to discriminate against religious minorities?

Join us in urging the Senate to oppose Barrett’s nomination and not to consider any nominee until the next presidential term begins: [link removed]

Adding insult to injury, more than four million Americans have already voted in the presidential election. We the people will pick the next president. That president should pick the nominee. It’s clear that rushing through Barrett’s nomination now compromises our democracy.

If the Senate continues down this path, we will see even more attempts to chip away at our fundamental right to religious freedom. Help us oppose Barrett’s nomination here: [link removed]
