Dear John
Later today we will appear in the Supreme Court to defend our historic win against the expansion of Heathrow airport.
Back in February, with your support, we scored a huge victory for the planet when the Court of Appeal agreed that plans to build a third runway were illegal. We won on the basis that the plans didn’t properly consider the UK’s climate commitments.
But even though the government decided not to challenge the decision, the airport chose to appeal. So today we’re going to the highest court in the land – the Supreme Court – to fight the planet’s corner once again.
The ruling in February was ground-breaking – I still get goosebumps thinking about it. It was a win for the millions of people already suffering from climate breakdown. A win for future generations. And a win for the local campaigners who’ve fought the third runway for years.
It also has the potential to meaningfully support climate action around the world.
But first we must do everything we can to defend our victory. Because filling the skies with more planes is the opposite of what we should be doing.
The pandemic has been difficult for us all. But if you’re able to, please consider setting up a monthly donation to support our campaigns – like the pioneering work of our legal team. Regular income helps give us the confidence we need to be able to take on cases like this.

It's very rare for a case to go all the way to the Supreme Court. So the fact it’s agreed to hear the Heathrow appeal shows that the case is of national importance.
Your support has helped us achieve a lot already – and we think our case is very strong. Whatever happens in court today, I promise we’ll never stop fighting for a greener, fairer world – one that works for everyone.
I'll be in touch again as soon as we hear the result – expected towards the end of this year or early in 2021.
Warm wishes,
Katie
