Friends,
Louisiana's economy is continuing to surge: In the first quarter of this year, our state's gross domestic product grew at a faster rate than the nation as a whole. This is on top of several consecutive quarters of GDP growth, which has helped make Louisiana one of the fastest growing economies in the nation in 2019.
I'm proud of the progress we've made. It means more Louisianans are working and fewer families are stressed about putting food on the table or purchasing school supplies. On top of that, our state's finances are more stable than they've been in years. We closed the books on last year's budget with a $300 million surplus.
This strong financial footing enables us to make strategic investments that will keep our state moving forward – a far cry from when Bobby Jindal was governor. Unfortunately, my opponents agree with Jindal's budgetary and economic policies, and they would take us back to the days of huge budget deficits and a stagnant economy.
I'm determined to prove that isn't what Louisianans want, but I still need 1,355 responses to really prove it. Please, answer this question before midnight tonight:
Are you happy with the direction Louisiana's economy is heading?

Thank you,
Governor John Bel Edwards
