Friend:
Americans are tired. Americans are sick (and Kentucky is now among the sickest states in the nation). This pandemic has bruised our country in ways that could take years to recover from.
Today, we learned that Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is just giving up—throwing in the towel on efforts to pass emergency relief to help Americans who are suffering right now.
Mitch has done next to nothing to stop a virus that has led to more than 200,000 deaths—and now he’s doing nothing to address an economic crisis that has led to millions unemployed and small businesses facing disaster.
But he is plowing ahead on his pet project: ramming through a Supreme Court nominee who will likely help tear away health care from people who need it most.
We don’t expect Mitch McConnell to start caring about people other than himself—but we can make it clear where Americans stand. Add your name to our open letter to Mitch McConnell: Demand that the Senate pass COVID-19 relief before moving forward on filling the Supreme Court vacancy:

The fact is, the American people are unambiguous about what they want the Senate to prioritize. A recent poll shows that 74% of Americans (and 55% of Republicans!) believe that, in this moment, passing COVID-19 relief needs to take precedence over filling Justice Ginsburg’s Supreme Court seat.
You can’t get three-quarters of the country to agree on almost anything, but they agree on this, because it’s obvious. America is in the midst of a generational crisis, and our leaders are focused on partisan fights.
We all know that Mitch’s favorite pastime in Washington is packing the court with judges he handpicks to push his agenda. But, Mitch, that can wait.
Giving up on a relief package now almost certainly means that thousands more will lose their jobs, families will lose their homes, and small businesses will be forced to close for good.
Add your name now and send the message that if the Senate works on anything before the election, it better be COVID-19 relief:

And if Mitch hates doing his job so much, he needs to lose it. More on that part soon…
Thank you,
