Chuck Schumer

Friend --

A deadly pandemic, or a rushed Supreme Court nomination?

Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell are choosing to ignore the more than 210,000 Americans who have died from COVID in favor of rushing the nomination of Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett. He’s doing this even while he’s adjourned the Senate for the safety of members and staff because the nomination party for Judge Barrett acted as a superspreader event for COVID amidst the White House and Senate GOP members.

That’s right: It’s unsafe to do the general work of the Senate right now, but we can still rush Judge Barrett’s nomination. Even though it was her nomination party that caused the COVID outbreak that brought the work of the Senate to a grinding halt. Because of it, there are now more positive COVID tests in the White House alone than there are in New Zealand, Taiwan, and Vietnam combined

It’s reckless behavior on top of careless priorities -- and the American people agree. A new poll shows that 74% of American voters want the Senate to take on COVID relief before we take up Judge Barrett’s nomination -- and I stand with every single one of those voters. It’s time to put public health over politics and stop rushing the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett and start passing COVID relief.

Add your name to join me in demanding Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell put the health and safety of Americans first by prioritizing COVID relief in the Senate over a rushed Supreme Court nomination right now.

Sincerely,

Chuck Schumer
