More Than $18 Million to Combat the Opioid Epidemic in Indiana
As I travel across Indiana, it is clear that no community has been spared from the harmful impacts of opioids. Last week’s announcement that Indiana will receive more than $18 million in funding to help address the opioid crisis is welcome news for Indiana as we fight to curb this devastating epidemic. More funding will allow more access to prevention services and treatment options.

Nuclear Innovation Summit at Purdue
Last week, Purdue University unveiled its newly retrofitted nuclear reactor. Located in the basement of Purdue’s Electrical Engineering Building, PUR-1 will help advance America’s nuclear energy capabilities.
To commemorate this important accomplishment, I had the opportunity to speak at Purdue’s Nuclear Innovation summit about our efforts in the Senate to advance nuclear and clean energy research.

Constituent Spotlight
Last year, my team helped 865 Hoosiers resolve problems with the federal government, but sometimes these cases go much slower than we’d like. Jill, a constituent from Sellersburg, first contacted me about a Veterans Administration appeal she was struggling with in 2012. Her father had been incorrectly denied a benefit. Over the last seven years, my team has advocated on her behalf. Though the process was lengthy, Jill never gave up and neither did we. Last month, the VA finally ruled in Jill’s favor, and she received nearly $10,000 that her family was owed.
