Dear Friend, Despite polls showing that a clear majority of the American people don't want a new Supreme Court justice confirmed before a new president is inaugurated, Mitch McConnell is plowing ahead with the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett.1 Even a rapidly spreading coronavirus outbreak among top government leaders isn't stopping McConnell and Trump. The confirmation hearings are still scheduled to begin on Monday. They want a new justice in place before the election, no matter the cost. But with so many Republicans in isolation, Senate Democrats could have new opportunities to stop this illegitimate confirmation process. We need to let Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other senators know they have the grassroots backing to do whatever it takes to stop this nomination. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: Mitch McConnell has been very clear that no matter how many precedents, procedures, and protocols he has to plow over, he is going to secure an extreme right-wing Supreme Court for generations to come.2 One of the first cases Barrett could rule on is the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act. If confirmed, she could deny health care to millions of people in a pandemic, and ensure that millions more are uninsurable due to preexisting conditions. Worse, a Supreme Court with Amy Coney Barrett on it could also be used to keep Trump in power in the event of a contested election. McConnell is overriding the will of the people by rushing through the nomination before the election.3 Senators must do everything possible to stop Barrett's confirmation. So far, Chuck Schumer hasn't shown a willingness to use all his tools to shut down McConnell's hearings. We need him to think about the future of America, which is why we're pushing as many people as possible to contact the Senate and demand that they do everything they can to stop this confirmation process. Will you donate to help stop Trump from filling Ruth Bader Ginsburg's seat? Thanks for standing with us. Robert Cruickshank, Sources: 1.
