I never, ever thought of myself as a politician, but the 2016 election was a big wake-up call for me.

Like so many other folks across the country, I knew an unchecked Donald Trump would prove to be a very dangerous thing -- but starting the process of running for office wasn’t easy, especially as a first-time, woman candidate.

Thankfully, Emerge America -- a national organization that recruits, trains, and provides a network for first-time, women, Democratic candidates -- was there to provide me with a necessary crash course in political fundamentals.

In the last 13 years, Emerge America has trained more than 4,000 women to run for office, including my colleagues in the House, Reps. Xochitl Torres Small, Abigail Spanberger, Lucy McBath, and Deb Haaland.

With Trump’s continuous attacks on women, now, more than ever before, it's imperative that we keep strong women in Congress -- because there are millions and millions of American women whose voices must be heard. 

That’s why I’m asking you to split a donation of $20 right now to help keep Xochitl, Abigail, Lucy, Deb, and myself fighting back in Congress -- can I count on you?

We elected a record number of women to Congress in the 2018 midterms. But, while women make up over 50 percent of our country’s population, we still only account for 23.4% percent of the representatives in Congress.

We sent a loud message to the Trump administration and his supporters that we are not going to stand by while they attack our environment, our health care, our reproductive rights, our public education, and more -- but there's still so much work to do.
