PANEL
Washington, D.C. (October 6, 2020) - The Center for Immigration Studies will host an 11 a.m. EDT panel on Thursday discussing the Center's new report, Overcrowded Housing Among Immigrant and Native-Born Workers. Overcrowding is important because a significant body of research pre-dating Covid-19 shows living in crowded conditions can facilitate the spread of the communicable respiratory diseases; there is preliminary evidence that this also applies to Covid-19. The new report examines overcrowding by occupation and other characteristics, and also the possible causes of overcrowding. Many of the occupations where overcrowding is most pronounced are thought to be essential during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr. Peter Skerry, a professor of political science at Boston College and a past senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, will join Dr. Steven Camarota, the Center's director of research and co-author of the report, in this discussion focusing on overcrowding, wages, and immigration levels.
