Hi John - for kids and adults with autism, bullying is far too common. Sadly, some studies show that more than 60 percent of children on the spectrum have experienced bullying at some point in their lives.
At Autism Speaks, we believe we can - and we must - change this statistic for the better. That’s why we’re committed year-round to increasing understanding and acceptance of people with autism, and why we’re especially focused on this important work during October, National Bullying Prevention Month.
I’m reaching out today to ask for your support, so that we can continue our crucial work to make bullying a thing of the past. With you in our corner, we can provide critical resources and share meaningful stories to foster understanding and acceptance for every person with autism. The more the world understands about what it means to be on the spectrum, the better it will be for every member of our diverse community.
John, I know you’re committed to kindness. You’ve shown us time and time again that you believe in the power of a kinder world, and that you’re doing your part to make it a reality. Can you give $54 today, for the 1 in 54 U.S. kids with autism and millions of autistic adults?
Finally, I want to share some words of encouragement from a member of our community who stood up to bullying and is now thriving. Erin C., 31, shares: “My advice to others being bullied is; as long as you feel physically safe: ALWAYS rise above. If you focus on being the best YOU, then others, who deserve your friendship, will notice that. You control your own happiness.”
Thank you for any gift you can give. We are so grateful to have your support for our mission.
With gratitude and hope, Claudine Larocque Vice President, Individual and Foundation Relations
