Two years after Hurricane Maria, it’s clear: President Trump has failed the THREE MILLION American citizens living in Puerto Rico.
Just last week, Trump moved to deal even further damage to Puerto Rico, depleting the island’s disaster relief funds by $400 million to fund his inhumane “border security” operation.
As Mayor of New York City, home to 700,000 Puerto Ricans -- the largest population of Puerto Ricans outside of the island, Bill is keenly aware of how Washington has failed our fellow citizens living in New York City’s beloved “sixth borough.” That’s why he introduced today his ‘Recovery, Resilience, Relief and Revitalization for the People of Puerto Rico’ plan.
As President, Bill would:
- Provide the resources necessary to help Puerto Rico recover after Hurricane Maria;
- Invest in resiliency efforts so that Puerto Rico and the rest of the country are ready for extreme weather events like hurricanes that are becoming more common due to global warming;
- Ensure relief for the Puerto Rican economy from crushing public debt, while protecting health care and retirement savings for working Puerto Ricans;
- Revitalize Puerto Rico’s economy with new tools that would help create sustainable, good-paying jobs on the island.
