Dear friend,

Will you take one minute to email your U.S. senators and your U.S. representative to help protect people in state and federal prisons from COVID-19? [link removed] [[link removed]]

Congress is close to passing another COVID-19 relief bill that would assist people impacted by the pandemic. We need to make sure any relief package that they pass includes provisions to help people in prisons and jails across America.

This past year has shown us that prison populations are very vulnerable to outbreaks of COVID-19. In fact, we know that prisons and jails have been some of the most dangerous hot spots in the country. As the President and members of Congress have tested positive for coronavirus in recent days, there has been much talk of "super spreader" events. We can't afford to forget that prisons and jails are the ultimate super spreaders.

One proposed bill in the House of Representatives, the HEROES Act, includes provisions to help vulnerable incarcerated people. The bill would expand compassionate release and provide funding to state and local governments who are using increased releases to stop the spread of the virus.

The Senate and White House should support these common sense provisions, and the House should continue to prioritize them in negotiations.

Please send an email to your U.S. senators and your U.S. representative. Urge them to back criminal justice provisions in any COVID-19 relief and protect people in prison. [link removed] [[link removed]]

Thank you for all of your support!

Best,

Molly Gill
