The Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival hosts press conference; announces 9-month, 20 plus state “We Must Do M.O.R.E.” Tour.

John,

This afternoon, we held a press conference in Washington, D.C. to announce our multi-state "We Must Do M.O.R.E." Tour. M.O.R.E. stands for mobilizing, organizing, registering and educating people for the movement who will vote. From Washington, the tour will officially launch in El Paso, Texas before heading to over 20 states over the next 9 months. It will culminate on Saturday, June 20, 2020 with a Mass Poor People’s Assembly and Moral March on Washington.

This tour is about registering people for the movement who vote and advancing a moral agenda to challenge the five interlocking injustices — systemic racism, systemic poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation and the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism. Over the course of the next nine months, we will work to unite many of the 140 million poor and low wealth people and their allies and organize a powerful movement that can shift our priorities and compel political leadership to pursue a moral agenda.

In more ways than one, the message that politicians and others send to the poor is that they do not matter. We say otherwise. In fact, millions of poor and low wealth people and organizers, who have invited us into the communities this tour will visit, say otherwise. When there are 38 million poor children, the nation must act. We are here to push an agenda for the poor and ensure that they are invisible no more.

Forward together, not one step back!
