In 2016, 100 million voters decided that their voices didn’t matter, and their apathy handed Donald Trump four years in the White House.
Since then, Trump has used his executive power to terrorize immigrant communities, defend domestic terrorists as “very fine people,” replace federal experts with Republican loyalists, dismantle access to affordable quality reproductive health care for women across the country -- and now he has threatened to bypass election results to keep hold of his power.
We’ve seen Trump’s plans for our country, and we refuse to stand by while he destroys our democracy.
Our mission at A Woman’s Place has always been to create a new, truly representative government that is reflective of the diversity of our country by helping women overcome the systemic barriers that keep them out of politics. We know that our democracy will only stand if women have an equal seat at the table -- and this year, we are supporting the record number of trailblazing women who are running for office to bring critical change to Washington.
But these last 29 days will be crucial in ensuring women succeed on Election Day, and we’re already seeing that the GOP’s move to appoint a new conservative justice to the Supreme Court is giving Republicans a competitive edge -- an ABC poll found Trump is now leading in two battleground states. We need to move now to get women elected in November, but we’re falling $1,392 short of where we need to be.
