John,

This year's Demofest looked a little different than in previous years. But once again, the Kansas Democratic Party put on a great event and I was proud to be part of it.

When I spoke at Demofest in 2019, we were celebrating the end of a groundbreaking year for Democrats and for the people of Kansas, and we were undoing the damage caused by Sam Brownback and his cronies. What we didn’t know at the time was that an unprecedented worldwide pandemic -- the worst public health crisis we’ve seen in a century -- was about to hit our country.

COVID-19 has altered our normal routines, our jobs, our schools, and our rituals like weddings and funerals -- even the way we vote. The pandemic has brought out the best, and at times, the worst, in people. It has made crystal clear who our elected leaders are and what they stand for.

Now, less than 35 days away from the most important election of our lifetime, I'm calling on all Kansans. We have to join together and vote like our lives depend on it -- because for some, it does. The future of affordable healthcare and protections for pre-existing conditions, our economy, and our schools are all on the ballot this year.

In Kansas, we have the opportunity to send a group of brilliant, qualified, and dynamic women leaders to Washington D.C. and flip Kansas blue.

We're going to re-elect Sharice Davids, our first Native American and first LGBT representative, to a second term representing the people of Kansas' 3rd Congressional District. We're going to make history by sending the first female physician to the U.S. Senate, Dr. Barbara Bollier. And we're going to flip Kansas' 2nd Congressional District and elect Topeka Mayor Michelle De La Isla.

But this is only possible if we join together, show up, and vote. Our future is on the line.

Thank you,

Laura
