John,
It’s no secret that the internet – and particularly social media – is a battleground for politics. Everyday, voters are being exposed to misinformation while trying to find answers about how to vote.
We’re already seeing signs of voter suppression on social media platforms with misinformation around vote-by-mail, ID requirements, ballot tracking, and more.
That’s why Women’s March is scaling up our efforts to combat election disinformation online through our successful Digital Defenders training program. We’re looking for more active participants to join our online Digital Defense community to keep up with daily election disinformation threats and respond to them in real time.
Please note that you must attend both trainings in full to become a part of the Election Disinformation Defense group.
We saw the deliberate manipulation of voters in 2016, and it’s our duty in these final 29 days before Election Day to prepare for similar attacks again this year. Our Election Digital Defense track within our Digital Defenders Program will fight against election disinformation online by educating voters online to turn voter confusion into education and preparation.
During the two-day training, you’ll learn about the election disinformation threats that are already on our horizon, those we anticipate that are on the rise, and get practice on how to respond effectively and accurately.
In addition to participating in our phone and text banks, marching on October 17, becoming an in-person Election Defender, and encouraging your friends to vote through Vote Tripling, this is another way you can safely participate in this election.
Together, we'll continue to get out the vote, fight to make sure every vote is counted, and protect the results.
With thanks,
Rachel
