Online misinformation — from decontextualized photos, to deceptive “news” content, to questionable memes shared on Facebook — can deceive voters and threaten the integrity of elections. What does misinformation look like? Where is it coming from in 2020? And how can we tell what to trust?
Stand-up comedian, writer and producer Wyatt Cenac will help answer these questions and more on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. ET at “The Threat of Misinformation,” a live digital event from the 92nd Street Y and ProPublica.
Moderated by Cenac, this discussion will feature First Draft Executive Director Claire Wardle, ProPublica reporter Jeff Kao and Amy Cohen, executive director of the National Association of State Election Directors. Together they’ll explore different types of election misinformation, why everybody is susceptible and what we can all do to battle misinformation when we see it circulating online.
