Democrat,

At the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, we join Governor Murphy in offering our best wishes that President Trump and all others affected by COVID-19 make a full recovery. However, we are also committed to being honest about the danger the President’s reckless actions have put potentially thousands of people in, both in Washington and right here in New Jersey.

Governor Murphy is calling on everyone who attended the Trump event in Bedminster to self-quarantine and get tested in accordance with CDC guidelines. In an interview with CBS This Morning, the Governor reiterated that the event should never have happened and doing so put New Jerseyans in danger:

The timelines have shifted several times in recent days and we know little for sure, but at the very least it appears that this much is certain -- President Trump traveled to our state to attend a campaign fundraiser at his private country club in Bedminster on Thursday night, after he had been informed that one of his closest aides had tested positive for COVID-19. The President then proceeded to meet and mingle with hundreds of attendees at the event, which was partially held indoors, potentially exposing them as well as the club’s employees to the virus.

As Governor Murphy said, we beat back COVID-19 together and we can’t let it come back here in New Jersey. Too many New Jerseyans have sacrificed too much for this reckless behavior to be accepted. We will continue working with Governor Murphy and his team to get important information out to residents and help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
