Recognizing Mental Illness Awareness Week
This Mental Illness Awareness Week is an opportunity to recognize and continue to support folks who are living with mental health challenges. In the Senate, one of my top priorities has been working to ensure Iowans – from our farmers to our veterans – have access to the mental health services and support they need.
The COVID-19 pandemic, and recent derecho, have placed tremendous stress on Iowans, which has made life even more challenging for those with a mental health struggle. If you or a loved one are in need of support, you are not alone, and help is available.
To contact the National Alliance on Mental Illness Crisis Text Hotline, text NAMI to 741741 for 24/7 support. Folks battling depression or thoughts of suicide are encouraged to call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 for free and confidential counseling available 24/7.
This week and every day, let’s come together to support our friends, neighbors, and fellow Iowans who are struggling.
