Hello Comrades,
Our comrades at Pioneer Valley DSA have invited us to a phone bank for the Ranked Choice Voting - YES on 2 campaign tonight, October 5th from 5:30pm to 7:30 pm.
You can find
details and RSVP here:
Ranked Choice
Voting will be Question 2 on the Massachusetts ballot on November 3rd
and the next steps, to educate the public so that they understand what
Ranked Choice Voting
is and vote "YES on 2" on the ballot question, is very important.
It is DSA's view that Ranked
Choice Voting democratizes and depolarizes our
elections, increases minorities and women in government, reduces
negative campaigning, ensures our elected leaders have majority support, and requires less money to run campaigns.
How Does Ranked Choice Voting Work?
With
Ranked Choice Voting the voter can vote for multiple candidates in
order of preference. On your ballot, you choose who is your first choice
to win, then second choice, third choice, and so on, as needed, for
each position.
The
candidate that wins a majority (50%) of first choice votes wins
outright. If no candidate receives a majority of first choice votes then
the counting process begins again. The candidate with the lowest first
choice votes is eliminated and their votes are redistributed to the
second choice picks on those ballots. This process continues until there
is a candidate with the majority of votes.
Where is Ranked Choice Voting already in place?
Ranked
Choice Voting is already in place in New Zealand, the
Republic of Ireland, New York City and the state of Maine, among
other places.

Please help us expand democracy and join the phone bank tonight!
