DEVELOPING… polls out of North Carolina and Michigan are showing Trump in the lead in both states. Biden had been ahead for months — and our leads in both must-win Senate races in these states are in danger too.
North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis — who recently vowed to vote for Trump's replacement for Justice Ginsburg, Amy Coney Barrett — is polling dead even with Cal Cunningham, his environmental challenger. Tillis is incredibly unpopular in the state and had been polling behind for months.
Michigan Senator Gary Peters — a reliable environmental vote — had been leading for months against a Trump-endorsed challenger — but the most recent poll is within the margin of error.
This is urgent — if we lose these states, we hand Trump his second term and lose a shot at an environmental majority in the Senate.
We're already running major get-out-the-vote and vote-by-mail operations targeting environmental voters in both states.
The strategy is working — the problem is that we need to scale up. As it stands, the funding just isn't there.
Our goal is to raise $150,000 by the end of the month — if we hit it, we will scale up our voter turnout operations in Michigan and North Carolina. Chip in just $3 today — every contribution is being triple-matched right now »
The stakes in these states are massive. But if we can continue our outreach strategies,
we will have the numbers. We could finally remove Trump and his enablers — and we're in a real position to advance federal policies that put people most impacted by pollution and climate change at the center of solutions — especially communities of color, Indigenous communities, and low-wealth communities.
But it's not just North Carolina and Michigan — it's Florida and Arizona too. Polls are tightening in states that we can't afford to lose.
We can win here, friend — I promise. In Florida and North Carolina, the race has been shaken up in recent weeks by Trump pledging not to allow offshore drilling. Offshore drilling is wildly unpopular with voters in both states — and now he's gaining ground.
It's total BS — the Trump administration was already pushing plans to start drilling. And Thom Tillis had been one of the biggest proponents of drilling in the Senate, until this last-minute change of heart, conveniently right before the election.
The problem is that voters aren't hearing the other side. We need to ramp up outreach efforts in a major way because when we do connect with voters, our research shows voting behavior shifts away from Trump in a major way.
Winning these states will come down to turnout — and vote-by-mail efforts are still underfunded, even as early voting opens in many places. A group of major donors has put up a match fund to triple every contribution in the final month of the election — up to $150,000.
Please — don't wait to make a contribution. Every day we wait to scale up is a missed opportunity to connect with voters. Help meet our $150,000 goal. Even $3 is enough to make a difference »
If everyone reading this right now pitched in — we'd blow through that goal in minutes.
We can win the Senate and the White House and defend the House — but it's going to take the entire environmental movement showing up in a big way. Thank you for everything you do, friend.
