Hey -- On Tuesday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit heard arguments on whether or not the whole of the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional.
The president, according to his Twitter account, agrees and, along with Republicans, wants to throw out the ACA in its entirety.
If the ACA were to be struck down, 187,000 Iowans would be put at risk of losing coverage -- and that would lead to a 126 percent increase in the number of people uninsured across our state.
We would lose an estimated $1.4 billion in federal healthcare funding in the first year alone, directly impacting Medicaid and CHIP care as well as Marketplace subsidies.
And worst of all, throwing out the ACA would mean for-profit insurance companies will have full control over who qualifies for coverage, putting 1,288,400 Iowans -- and 130 million Americans -- with pre-existing conditions in danger.
Despite the fact that the ACA is working and providing healthcare for millions of Americans who otherwise wouldn’t have coverage, the administration is using access to quality care as a pawn in partisan politics.
Today, we need to hear from you in our quick survey on healthcare:
Should we protect the ACA?
Thank you so much for taking our survey. We look forward to hearing your responses.
Best,
