Hi John,

For more than a month now, people of Jammu and Kashmir have been living in communication blackout.

On 5 August, the Government of India stripped the region of its autonomy and shut down all phone and internet access in the region.

There is almost no information coming from Jammu and Kashmir as all national and international media have been blocked from accessing the region. This brings up grave concerns of human rights violations that may be going unreported due to the Government’s control over information coming in and out of the region.

With no phones or internet, families have been unable to reach out and speak to loved ones to let them know they are safe. This is a collective punishment for the people of Kashmir and it cannot be ignored.

Will you email the Indian Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Satya Pal Malik, to immediately lift the communications lockdown in Kashmir and let the people speak?

The decades of political battle over Kashmir has affected its people more than anybody else. At this crucial point in India’s history, help put humanity first.

Depriving an entire population of their right to freedom of expression, opinion and movement is against international norms and standards. What’s worse, it gives the Government of India a near-total control over the information coming out of the region which has witnessed serious human rights violations in the past.

Together we can show the Government of India that the world is watching and that we stand with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Will you take action today?
