Dear John
Since the beginning of lockdown, an estimated six million people in the UK have
fallen behind on one or more household bills, with poorest households hit the
hardest. For example...
Leonie had been doing shift work through an agency for several years, but her work ended when lockdown began. She is now behind on her rent, water bills and council tax. Every day, she receives letters asking for repayment.
Leanne is living in fear of eviction, as the part time work she was doing to make ends meet stopped during lockdown and she wasn't able to pay her rent or bills.
This is an urgent problem that demands a solution. That’s why Church Action on
Poverty has teamed up with the Methodist, Baptist, United Reformed Churches and Church of Scotland to ask the Chancellor to
create a Jubilee Fund, to pay off and cancel unavoidable Covid debt for
households in the UK.
