CNN: Obama urges voters to focus on down-ballot races to combat gerrymandering
Last month, President Obama spoke out about the importance of voting this fall. And he wasn't talking about the presidential race -- he was talking about down-ballot races across the country.
This fall is our last election before redistricting in 2021, which means the local leaders we elect will be responsible for drawing our maps for the next 10 years. Will you give today so we can help Democrats win these crucial down-ballot races?

"That could mean a decade of fairly drawn districts where folks have an equal voice in their government, or it could mean a decade of unfair partisan gerrymandering" --President Obama
President Obama knows how important down-ballot races are to our democracy. During his own administration a GOP majority in Congress, built from gerrymandered maps, refused to pass comprehensive immigration reform or common-sense gun safety legislation -- even though a majority of Americans supported it.
Why?
Because in 2010, Republicans won control of state legislatures throughout the country. Then in 2011, they were able to control redistricting, and draw maps that guaranteed conservative majorities in Congress and state legislatures. They used this power to obstruct progress on issues Americans care about.
The GOP is trying to run the same play in 2020 and 2021, and right now, it's working. Republicans are leading the money race in critical battleground states, and Democrats are running out of time to catch up. Can you rush a contribution so we can close the gap and prevent another decade of Republican obstruction?
