Hi,
My name is Melvine. I'm a #Fight4HER advocate, and I wanted to take a moment to share my story with you today.
Where I live in Kenya, people are suffering at the hands of a president they did not elect...Donald J. Trump.
Trump's Global Gag Rule is forcing health clinics in my country to shut their doors, leaving thousands of Kenyans without care. Contraceptive supplies are dwindling, and people with HIV are going without treatment.
Two years ago, I came to the U.S. with #Fight4HER to speak out against this cruel policy. And this week, I'm here again to say: It is time to repeal Trump's Global Gag Rule.
Please join me by raising your voice for people around the world. Contact your legislators today and ask them to support the Global HER Act, which would permanently repeal this deadly policy.
When I was a reproductive health nurse and clinic manager at Family Health Options Kenya (FHOK), I proudly provided safe and affordable reproductive health care services to the people who needed them most.
Since Trump's Global Gag Rule went into effect in January 2017, FHOK was forced to shut down three of its clinics—in Mombasa, Kitengela, and Isiolo. FHOK could not accept U.S. terms that would prevent it from providing comprehensive reproductive health care services—including safe abortion, which is legal in my country. Now, tens of thousands of community members have no access to family planning commodities.
You have the power to support change in my community, but only if you join me in speaking up about Trump's unjust and dangerous Global Gag Rule.
Will you send your legislators a letter today, asking them to permanently repeal Trump's disgraceful policy?
I fight to see the day when the patients I once served regain access to the health care they need and deserve. I hope you'll fight with me.
All my best,
Melvine Ouyo
