Friends,

There is a humanitarian crisis at our southern border. The treatment -- or lack thereof -- of families and children is dehumanizing and appalling.

After visiting a Border Patrol facility in South Texas, Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General officials stated the DHS must address the “dangerous overcrowding” and that the situation requires “immediate attention and action.”

This year, nearly a quarter million people have been held in the Rio Grande Valley facilities alone -- and 23,944 were unaccompanied children.

Migrants are being held and forced to wear the same clothes they arrived in for days, have no access to showers or laundry facilities, and are not provided sufficient food or places to sleep. Trump administration officials have gone on the record starting that detained children do not need hot food, soap, toothbrushes, or towels.

Today I am asking you to join me in calling on the president to close the camps because children belong with their families, not in cold cells deprived of basic necessities.

We will not use their lives as partisan bargaining chips. We will not negotiate or compromise. We will not tolerate this horrific situation.

Thank you for joining me in this important fight.

Chris
