John-

There’s been an effort in the works to form a public utility district on the Eastside to displace PSE.  It sure would be nice if PSE went carbon-free, but realistically there’s no way they can do that without massive rate increases and state and federal funds infusions.  They’ve spent too much on gas infrastructure, and they’ll be paying it off for at least 20 years.

The straightest line to getting carbon free (and to getting an electrical grid that doesn’t go down every time there’s a stiff breeze) is a PUD.  This is just the sort of problem—unaccountable investor-owned utilities held by people who live a long way off—that PUDs were created to solve.

In order to get the PUD on the ballot for 2020, we’ll need to gather signatures.  Please join a planning meeting at the Redmond Library on Tuesday, September 10th, from 7:30PM to 9PM. There will be time to get questions answered, do some brainstorming, and generally get folks plugged into this effort.

We hope to see you there.
