Hi John,

This is Mike Espy , former member of Congress, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, and Democratic candidate running for U.S. Senate in my home state of Mississippi. Adam asked me to reach out personally to tell you about our historic race for Senate here in Mississippi, so I hope you’ll give me a moment to explain why our campaign is finally making waves across the country and how you can help us win.

I’m running against Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, a far-right incumbent Republican Senator who’s dressed up in Confederate military memorabilia, joked about attending a public hanging, and went as far as saying the Confederacy was “Mississippi at its best.”

Hyde-Smith represents Mississippi’s troubled past, and she’s keeping it there by putting the partisan agenda of Mitch McConnell before the needs of Mississippians.

In 2018, I challenged Hyde-Smith in a special election for Senate and came closer to winning than any Democrat in the state since 1982. I’m running again because I love Mississippi, and I want to move this state forward for everyone by protecting and improving our health care, finally expanding Medicaid, providing quality public education and good-paying jobs, and making Mississippi a welcoming place for all.

Despite a lack of national attention early on in our race, the polls now show us just one point behind my far-right opponent in the general election , and through a surge of grassroots support, we’re building the biggest, most diverse coalition of support Mississippi has ever seen.

With just weeks left in this competitive race and my incumbent opponent receiving fundraising help from McConnell himself, I need as much support as possible so we can keep our TV ads running and spread the word about our people-powered campaign for a brighter Mississippi.
