Friend,
Free Press is going to the Supreme Court.
In 2019 we won an appeals-court case against the Trump FCC after the
agency gutted its ownership rules to pave the way for even more media
consolidation. But the FCC wants to keep serving the right-wing Sinclair
Broadcast Group and other mammoth media conglomerates — and the Supreme
Court decided to hear the case.

Friend,
This morning we woke up to the news (no, not that news) that we’re headed to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court decided to hear the Trump FCC’s argument for clearing the way for even more media consolidation. This is a case that we have been winning for over a decade.
Our chances of beating the FCC are good — but it’s going to be a battle and we need your help to cross the finish line. Donate today and your gift will be TRIPLED to help us beat the broadcasting lobby and the FCC in the Supreme Court.

The FCC has an obligation to promote a diversity of voices, but for far too long it has served as an arm of the broadcast lobby, refusing any accountability for the shameful lack of ownership diversity in U.S. broadcast media. It has pushed racist and sexist deregulatory policies that make it harder for women and people of color to own TV and radio stations.
But the FCC doesn’t care. In 2017, the agency weakened its media-ownership limits with no analysis of how that would affect ownership opportunities for women and people of color. We sued the FCC in court and won in 2019.[1] But the Trump FCC wants to keep serving the right-wing Sinclair Broadcast Group and other mammoth media conglomerates and refuses to give up.
Representation matters and we are taking that fight to the Supreme Court: Donate today to help us win and have your gift TRIPLED by a generous donor.

We can’t afford more foot dragging by the FCC — we need an agency that will live up to its mandate and create a more diverse and democratic media system that serves everyone.
Thank you for all that you do,
Jessica, Matt and the rest of the Free Press legal team
