Over the past few days, Trump has been doing what he excels at: distraction. While we've been distracted with edited map drawings and sharpie memes, $3.6 billion was diverted from military funding to pay for his absurd wall along the U.S. and Mexico border.
That's $3.6 BILLION to pay for his vanity project. Those billions of dollars have been taken from:
- the U.S. Navy working to fix safety violations at dilapidated ship maintenance buildings
- military construction projects in Maryland and Virginia
- child-care facilities for the children of our American soldiers
- a treatment center for working service dogs
- military schools and military families
Pulling funding from critical national security projects for a 7th-century style vanity project hurts our U.S. national security.
When the Senate and Congress return from recess today, my focus will remain on protecting our national security, pushing for election security and cybersecurity measures, reforming our gun laws, reducing health care costs and supporting legislation to reduce carbon emissions to protect our environment.
These are Democratic values and priorities. Let's refocus our efforts and energy on what matters: the future of our country and our democracy.
Jim
