John,
Children may be too young to vote, but they’re never too young to learn the incredible power and honor of that right. That’s why I wrote “The Power of a Sticker,” to help children understand that voting is a way to make real change in the world around them. “When we all vote, that’s when real change happens. I vote because of you.” I hope you’ll share it with the children you love—and then ask them to tell you what they would vote for, if they could!
As young Mia demonstrates in the story, children know what they need, and they have a lot at stake in this election. Across the country, there are children just like Mia and her friends who struggle to get healthy food, experience housing instability and homelessness, and are at risk of being separated from their families. For these children and the children you love, your vote matters.
This fall, why not engage the children in your life in the process of voting by having them sit with you while you complete your ballot or accompany you to your polling place? Whether you’re going to vote early, vote by mail, or vote in person on Election Day, make a plan to vote and make it clear that you take that right seriously—because our children’s futures depend on it. Gratefully,
Joshua Stewart P.S. In some states, the deadline to register to vote is as early as next week! Are you and your loved ones all registered?
