Last week, President Trump announced circuit judge Amy Coney Barrett as his nominee to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court. We at Heritage Action applaud his selection of Barrett, a very qualified judge with a sterling reputation and solid track record of jurisprudence. We have heard an outpouring of support for Judge Barrett from grassroots Americans, and Senators should listen and quickly vote to confirm her.
A Heritage Action poll <[link removed]> shows that voters in battleground states want the Senate to move forward with confirmation before Election Day. And there is plenty of time to do so, according to historical precedent and the confirmation schedule put forth by the Judiciary Committee. The Committee is set to begin the hearing process on Monday, October 12th, setting up a confirmation vote by the full Senate as early as October 27th. Heritage Action Executive Director Jessica Anderson told The Washington Examiner <[link removed]>, “The American people want to move forward with the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett. [Our] important polling data will arm senators with the facts they need to confidently vote yes for the president's nominee without delay.”

>>If you have questions about the confirmation process, check out our Frequently Asked Questions here <[link removed]>.

There has been an outcry from Democrats against considering Judge Barrett’s nomination before the election, and they have even threatened to pack the court with liberals at their first opportunity if she is confirmed. Our polling shows this threat is unpopular with the American people, with half of voters in battleground states saying they would be less likely to vote for Democratic nominee Joe Biden if he wants to pack the court with additional justices – a position he refused to disavow in Tuesday night’s debate.

As Jessica Anderson noted in her post debate opinion piece for CNN <[link removed]>, “Biden dodged a question about packing the Supreme Court…[He] cannot answer these questions without alienating the extremists in his party. If he shouts down court-packing, he loses liberals…Biden has nowhere to go, so instead, he stayed silent…”

It is clear the Senate should proceed swiftly according to their Constitutional duty, and we stand ready to ensure Judge Barrett’s confirmation is successful.

Legislation continues to move through Congress amidst the SCOTUS confirmation fight. This week, the Senate passed and the President signed a continuing resolution to fund the government through December 11.

Due to Heritage Action’s hard work all year, this bill turned out as a win for conservatives. While it was not a perfect bill, we were successful in keeping bad coronavirus spending, expansions of government, and additional programs that are sometimes snuck into continuing resolutions out of the bill. Thank you!

On Thursday, the House passed “The Heroes Act”, a $2.2 trillion attempt by the Left to push their radical agenda during a pandemic and increase the burden on the backs of the American taxpayer. The bill spent nearly half a trillion dollars in bailing out poorly managed state and local government budgets while reauthorizing the harmful $600 per week extra unemployment insurance payment.

Perhaps most telling of where they actually stand, House Democrats used the guise of the pandemic to Defund the Police, stripping $600 million in Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) and redirecting the funds to the National Endowment of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities—liberal pet projects which do nothing to ensure the safety and security of Americans. We key voted against the bill <[link removed]>. Every Republican and 18 Democrats voted no. See how your Representative voted on our scorecard <[link removed]>.

Fight for America Stories
Sentinels protest cuts to Dallas police budget
Sentinels in Dallas, Texas rallied outside City Hall to oppose cuts to the police budget with our “Back the Blue” yard signs in hand. Local media reported on the rally <[link removed]>, and their ongoing efforts to support police have made an impact, with citizens and numerous former Councilmen writing the Council to oppose the move to defund the police.
BLM vs. American Values door hangers
As part of our Fight For America campaign, we created door hangers contrasting the goals of Black Lives Matter, Inc. and American values reminding voters that, “Fighting for America means knowing where your elected officials stand on American Values.” Over 78,000 have been distributed so far! If you’d like door hangers to leave behind while talking with your neighbors in the weeks ahead, reach out to your regional coordinator! <[link removed]>
Heritage Action “Back the Blue” yard signs making an impact
Virginia congressional candidate Nick Freitas (VA07) held a “Back the Blue” rally last weekend. Thanks to Sentinels Mark and Anita Hile for their presence at the event and getting our “Back the Blue” yard signs to the rally for attendees!
Sentinel Waverly Woods delivered our “Back the Blue” yard signs to an event in Virginia’s 5th congressional district. A sign ended up decorating the stage where congressional candidate Bob Good spoke to the crowd, driving the message home how important our police are to our communities.
Our signs sparked conversation and opposition from the Left outside a voting center in Virginia last week.
The Police Pledge
200,000 people have signed the Heritage Action Police Pledge including members of Congress, state and local officials, and citizens all across the country! Congressman Frank Lucas (OK03) recently signed the Pledge, tweeting <[link removed]>, “Oklahoma’s law enforcement officers risk their lives every single day to ensure the freedoms & property of every single individual are protected. I’ll always oppose any attempt to ‘Defund the Police’, & I’ll always stand with the men & women in blue who protect our communities.”
The Police Pledge is highlighting the issue of law and order and thrusting this conversation to the forefront. Check out some of the media mentions below:
