Fighting for our Family-Based Immigration System
Advancing Justice | AAJC and the Value Our Families ([link removed]) campaign support the reintroduction of Representative Judy Chu’s Reuniting Families Act (HR 3799), which would over-time clear the millions of people waiting in the backlogs for family-based and employment-based green cards and provide other improvements with a goal of protecting and promoting family unity. These changes include, but are not limited to, providing equality to LGBTQ families, improving the treatment of widows and stepchildren, providing work authorization and status protection to spouse and children of H-1B workers, and providing enforcement relief so families can stay together. A full description of the bill is available here ([link removed]) . Value Our Families mobilized 60 community members from 23 states this summer to conduct 125 legislative visits to encourage members to
co-sponsor the Reuniting Families Act. We now have 50 co-sponsors!
Take Action to Reunite & Keep Families Together!
We need your help seeking more co-sponsors for the Reuniting Families Act. Join our call-in day TODAY, Monday, September 9 by making calls from now until 5:00 p.m. ET.
First, check here to see if your Representative is already a co-sponsor. ([link removed]) If they are, tweet or call them to say THANK YOU!
If they are not, tweet or call them to encourage them to co-sponsor. Share why this bill is important to you as a constituent. Call other members who represent your state who are not yet co-sponsors.
If you don’t know your member’s D.C. office number, call 202-225-3121 and ask to be transferred to your representative.
SAMPLE SCRIPT:
“Hi, my name is ______ and I live in ________. I’m calling with the Value Our Families Campaign to ask Congressmember ___________ to co-sponsor the Reuniting Families Act, HR 3799, to improve our family-based immigration system and help families across the nation strive. The Reuniting Families Act will address the long-wait times for families to reunite due to visa backlogs, increase diversity in our immigration system and strengthen the family-based immigration system, including by providing equality for LGBTQ families and relief to families separated by our harsh enforcement system.
Can we count on your support for immigrant families?”
Thank you for your support of families,
Megan Essaheb
Director of Immigration Advocacy
