Dear John,

The Federal Budget will be released on Tuesday evening and will chart a course for how Australia will recover from the COVID Recession.

It’s a recession that is the deepest and darkest in almost a century. This Budget will be one of the most important in recent years.

But despite what they announce, we’ve already seen how the Morrison Government is always there for the photo op, never there for the follow up.

We saw it with how Scott Morrison was quick to hold flashy press conferences after last summer’s bushfires, but even now there are still families waiting for help.

We saw it with his slow response to COVID and the politics he’s played over state borders.

And while Morrison has been playing politics, what has his government done so far?

They’ve taken away crucial support at a time when people need it the most – cutting wages, winding back JobKeeper and JobSeeker, backflipping on super increases and freezing the pension.

We have an important task ahead. We need to hold Morrison to the account and make sure that he doesn’t drop the ball on the recovery, and we can’t simply wait until the next election.

That’s where you come in. We need your help in getting the message out. The Coalition will be watching what people think of their Budget – so we’ve got to act fast to get Labor’s message out.

Over the coming weeks, you’ll be hearing more from our Labor team about what the Budget means from you.

On Thursday next week, Anthony Albanese will be delivering his Budget Reply and you won’t want to miss it. We’ll make sure to keep you updated.

So we hope we can count on your support throughout the week and beyond.
