While the Supreme Court. President, and Congress play a prominent role in our reproductive freedom, our state and local community leaders often more directly determine our bodily autonomy ---- or lack thereof.

Today, #VOTEPROCHOICE released a groundbreaking report describing how every elected seat in America limits or expands reproductive freedom.

The full #VOTEPROCHOICE Down Ballot Report is available here.
School Board
  • Votes on local education curriculum, including sex education programs.
  • Decides how much (if any) information students receive on abortion and contraception, sexuality and gender expression.
  • Determines if pregnant or parenting students receive specific support or on-site childcare.
Sheriff
  • Decides how much protection local abortion facilities receive.
  • In some cases, can jail women and doctors for abortion procedures.
  • Determines whether inmates have access to things like menstrual products, prenatal care, labor practices, reproductive health services, and abortion.
District Attorney
  • Is responsible for determining to what extent state abortion laws are enforced or not enforced.
  • Decides whether or not to prosecute cases involving attacks on abortion providers.
  • In some cases, can charge an abortion recipient or abortion provider with murder.
  • In some cases, can prosecute cases if a parent is not notified of an abortion procedure.
...and that's just the beginning. Judges, city council members, mayors, and so many more local and statewide leaders directly impact our bodily autonomy every day.

Remember - in November 2019 there are over 49,000 down ballot races in 34 states. We cannot wait until 2020. We must #VOTEPROCHOICE in every election to protect our reproductive freedom.
