James Carville recently went on MSNBC to give Americans a stark warning about Republicans. According to the veteran Democratic strategist, “if this election is remotely close, they will steal it.”
Carville pointed to the way the Supreme Court stopped an ongoing vote count in 2000 in order to hand the election to George W. Bush -- even though Al Gore had won the popular vote.
The GOP is now able to repeat that strategy, especially with a strong conservative majority on the Supreme Court and with the doubt Trump has manufactured about the outcome of the election.
But there’s one way we can stop the GOP from succeeding in their anti-democratic assault. According to Carville, “the only protection that Democrats have is they have to win by such a margin that makes it impossible for [the GOP] to overturn the election.” Right now we don’t have anything close to the margin of victory we’ll need to do that.
