This week, Trump announced Judge Amy Coney Barrett as his pick to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Barrett is known for her conservative views on abortion and her approval of dismantling the Affordable Care Act. She also has ties to the fringe fundamentalist Christian group People of Praise.
Following a ruling in a lawsuit brought by the ACLU, the Trump administration will no longer block immigrant teens from accessing reproductive health care, including abortion. Another judge ruled this week against enacting a steep increase in the costs associated with citizenship and immigration application fees.
Data released by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office shows that deaths in ICE detention centers are the highest since 2005. More than a third of those who died in custody tested postive for the coronavirus.
Feminist groups gathered in Mexico City to protest and demand the national legalization of abortion, where they clashed violently with police.

Trump Administration Will Stop Blocking Pregnant Minors in Custody from Accessing Abortion [[link removed]]
According to a judge-approved agreement from Wednesday, the Trump administration will cease blocking immigrant teens in federal custody from accessing abortion care.

Death Count in ICE Facilities Is the Highest It Has Been in the Last 15 Years [[link removed]]
According to data released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 21 people died in ICE custody in the fiscal year 2020, which ended on Wednesday. This is the highest death toll since 2005, and is more than double the amount of deaths that occurred in the fiscal year 2019. More than a third of these people had tested positive for COVID-19. Since the pandemic began, there have been over 6,100 confirmed COVID cases among detainees.

Federal Judge Blocks Increase in Citizenship & Immigration Application Fees [[link removed]]
A San Francisco federal judge temporarily blocked an increase in the cost of citizenship and other immigration application fees, an upsurge initiated by the Trump administration. These increases were scheduled to go into effect on Friday, October 2nd, and would raise the citizenship application cost from $640 to $1,160– an 81% increase. The proposal also included a $50 fee for filing an asylum application and would remove many of the fee waivers for low-income applicants.
