USMCA: Mexico's Perspective on Labor Provisions and Mexico's Labor Reforms The United States-Colombia Growth Initiative: A New Phase in Bilateral Relations?
Economy Secretary Graciela Márquez and Labor Secretary Luisa María Alcalde discussed the Mexican government’s ambitious plans and progress towards implementing the labor law reforms required under the USMCA. U.S. Ambassador Philip S. Goldberg affirmed during the event that Colombia has made significant progress in addressing security and the rule of law, but noted that “the work isn’t complete.”

The Wilson Center presented Woodrow Wilson Awards for Public Service to The Honorable Steven F. Mnuchin, Her Excellency Christine M. Lagarde, Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Congressman Gregory Meeks (D-NY) at a ceremony on September 30. The awards are given to those individuals whose actions and accomplishments, either in their careers or through service, reflect President Woodrow Wilson’s belief that “there is no higher religion than human service. To work for the common good is the greatest creed.”

A U.S. withdrawal and peace deal could “cede ample ground to its top rivals in Afghanistan—China but also Russia and Iran,” writes Michael Kugelman; but he also notes that “these countries—through shared infrastructure development—could create the very outcomes supported by the United States.”
