READING THE CULTURE
by Bob Linn
|
This week, Oklahoma’s own Bill Shapard will fascinate us with polling results just completed regarding the political mindset of Oklahoma’s citizenry.
Actually, we could just ask the pastors of some of Oklahoma’s churches. Today's average pulpiteer reads the culture very well. Trouble is, for far too many, it is the cultural tea leaves which determine the fundamental groundwork of Sunday morning commentary.
American greatness is grounded in the pulpits of the 17th century. Pulpits firmly grounded in a Puritan vision of establishing a people and a government whose fundamental presupposition was that Scripture was the only proper foundation for all mankind … his cultural endeavors, his family life, his education, and the governmental structures he crafted.
Our founders got it right. They saw the individual, the family, the church, the culture, and the state as having their very being under the divine authority of their Creator and only Sovereign. Absolutely no division between God and the individual, family, culture, and State. This concept is much older than the Puritans. Even older than the Christian statesmen who developed the Christian political theory which gave oversight to the rise of the West.
Speaking through the Psalmist, God promised that “Nations will fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth will fear your glory”, Psalm 102:15. The nations have always had the attention of God. The nations are the promised inheritance of Abraham and his descendants (Genesis 12 onward). Christ is the only hope of any nation. The Apostle Paul confirms the hope is now even more secure stating, “And, if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to the promise.” (Galatians 3:29) The Apostle John continues the Abrahamic promise theme of divine focus on the nations in Revelation 15:3, 4: “O King of the nations …All nations will come and worship you.”
|
This was not only the foundation of the American pulpit in the 17th Century. The patriots of the 18th and 19th centuries founded our republic on the principle that God is the only hope for the nations. Samuel Adams, signer of the Declaration of Independence, Father of the American Revolution and ratifier of the U.S. Constitution, said:
“I conceive we cannot better express ourselves than by humbly supplicating the Supreme Ruler of the world . . . that the confusions that are and have been among the nations may be overruled by the promoting and speedily bringing in the holy and happy period when the kingdoms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be everywhere established, and the people willingly bow to the scepter of Him who is the Prince of Peace.”
In contrast, from 18th century's Voltaire to today's Richard Dawkins, secular prophets have looked hopefully to future civilizations who place their trust in a secular version of mankind and not their Creator. Their atheistic secularism permeates our schools and our media. It is the responsibility of the pulpit to understand the backdrops of culture and guide the people away from the mythologies inherent in godlessness.
This Wednesday, Sooner Polls will unveil the most recent data concerning Oklahoma’s mindset and the degree to which our people are fascinated with current winds of atheistic Marxist ideology being promoted by Democratic presidential candidates. The always entertaining Bill Shapard will articulate the most recent polling indicators and what may be in store for us in November of 2020.

The time has come to take back Oklahoma for Oklahomans. Dark and out of state money has flooded into Oklahoma to try to influence elections. Most recently, the attack on our Constitutional right to bear arms from a Michael Bloomberg financed front group, Mothers Demand Action.
OCPAC believes citizens should be made aware of campaigns using money that is either from out-of-state or of an untraceable origin (dark money). Revealing these special interests will devalue the impact their dollars have on our elections and provide a state that truly reflects the values of its citizens.

Not A Daycare
Still an important read

|
Dr. Piper is one of God's choice men. He is leading the way in the American Church and in the American Christian University by calling for a return to epistemological bedrock. I urge those of you who have not read his book, Not A Day Care: The Devastating Consequences of Abandoning Truth, to order a copy today. It is available very inexpensively here.
