Take action to keep nuclear waste under strict regulatory control.
John,
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) wants to change regulations on how nuclear waste is disposed of. This dangerous new proposal means that radioactive waste could end up in a landfill near you!
They’re hoping people are too distracted to notice this outrageous move. But Food & Water Action is sounding the alarm and fighting back. We’re mobilizing as many people as we can to tell the NRC to scrap their reckless plan. That’s why we need your help today.
Currently, nuclear waste is sent to specially-licensed disposal operations where it can be properly handled. But the NRC wants to reclassify some radioactive waste so it can go to unlicensed facilities, even local landfills.
Nuclear waste is dangerous no matter how the NRC classifies it. It doesn’t belong in local landfills. With improper disposal, radioactive waste can leak into local water and food supplies. If incinerated, it can be released into the air. Communities could be exposed to radioactive nuclear waste without even knowing it.
For decades, nuclear power polluters have been trying to shift the legal and financial responsibility for their waste to the public. The NRC wants to give them everything they want, no matter the consequences to our health or the environment. Let’s stop them together.
