At a virtual high-level meeting on Thursday 1 October, more than 100 countries committed to concrete actions that will advance gender equality around the world. This gathering, under the theme “Accelerating the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls,” marked the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action – the most comprehensive roadmap for women and girls’ empowerment. As COVID-19 exposes the fault lines of gender equality, a strong focus on violence against women at the UN General Assembly

COVID-19 global gender response tracker: only one in eight countries have measures in place to protect women
Most of the world’s nations are not doing enough to protect women and girls from the economic and social fallout being caused by the COVID-19 crisis, according to new data released by UN Women and UNDP from the COVID-19 Global Gender Response Tracker. The tracker, which specifically analyses government measures with a gender lens across 206 countries and territories, revealed that only one in eight countries worldwide have measures in place to protect women against social and economic impacts. UN Trust Fund Call for Proposals
Deadline: 4 November 2020
The United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women is accepting applications for its 2020 grant cycle. Civil society organizations are invited to submit grant proposals for a minimum of US $50,000 up to a maximum of US $1 million for a period of three years. This year, the UN Trust Fund is seeking applications from organizations working on the front lines to address and respond to violence against women and girls in the context of the current pandemic.
