About the guest speakers:

Meet our guest speakers!

Join us to hear from our guest speaker, Reverend Lennox Yearwood, Jr., President and Founder of the Hip Hop Caucus. As a national leader within the Green Movement, Rev. Yearwood works to bridge the gap between communities of color and environmental advocacy. He is a leader in campaigns calling for divestment from fossil fuels causing climate change, increasing diversity in the climate movement, ensuring everyone has clean water and air, and international efforts to address he climate crisis. Rev. Yearwood is a board member of the League of Conservation Voters and we are excited to welcome him back to the (virtual) Breakfast stage after he joined us in 2015. We look forward to hearing what Rev. Yearwood has to say about the intersection between climate justice, racial justice, voting, and an open and fair democracy!

Also in attendance as an exciting guest speaker will be Governor Jay Inslee! A fifth-generation Washingtonian, Governor Jay Inslee grew up in the Seattle area and entered public service in Yakima in 1985. He went on to become a state representative and was elected to Congress in 1993. In 2012, Jay was elected Washington’s 23rd governor. Through two terms as governor, Jay’s focus has been on building a brighter future for every Washingtonian. Jay has firmly established the state of Washington as the national leader in fighting climate change. He created the Clean Energy Fund, a model for economic development aligned with climate change goals, creating hundreds of jobs and setting unprecedented emissions standards, making Washington state the standard-bearer for the nation.

Also in the lineup is our State Representative and 2020 WCV Legislator of the Year Vandana Slatter! Rep. Slatter (D-48) led a multi-year effort to pass HB 2311, Climate Pollution Limits, updating Washington state’s goals for reducing climate-changing greenhouse gas emissions to bring them in line with current science and include the role of sequestration in our state’s climate policy. This policy puts the State of Washington on a trajectory to pass future carbon reducing laws to meet those aggressive limits.

Lastly, you'll also have the opportunity to meet WCV’s new CEO, Alyssa Macy, who comes to us from the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs of Oregon, where she served as Chief Operations Officer for the Tribal government. Alyssa brings a strong background in political action, social justice, and Tribal leadership grounded in a deep, personal connection to our land, water, and the communities they sustain.

I hope to "see" you there,
