Donald Trump has made his view on the case clear -- to him, eliminating the ACA would be “a big WIN for the USA!”
We think removing Donald Trump from elected office, along with all of his Republican allies who would be happy to see millions of Americans of color go without health care just so they can say they had their revenge against Barack Obama, would be the real big win. And we may soon have the chance to do just that; progressives made enormous gains in the 2018 midterms precisely because health care was on the ballot -- and voters have said that health care is once again the most important issue to them this election.
But Republicans have learned from their mistakes in 2018 and are now declaring themselves “the party of health care.” Trump is doing everything he can to trick voters into thinking he has their best interests at heart, and recently signed an executive order declaring it was the “policy” of the United States to protect Americans with pre-existing conditions -- even as he roots for the law that enshrines such protections to be gutted.
What’s more, we’re falling short of the funds we need to support candidates who will fight for not only the ACA but Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and all the health care programs that serve as lifelines for Americans of color -- lifelines that the Republican Party stands ready to rip from their arms.
You see through the lies of Trump and his allies. You know they don’t have a bigger and better replacement for the ACA. You know they won’t care if millions of vulnerable Americans are left without coverage in the middle of a pandemic just as long as they can bring a political win back to their base -- and you know that they’ll get away with it if we don’t stop them.
