Hundreds of members have had to evacuate their homes during this wildfire season, and nearly two dozen have lost their homes and possessions in the fires. Locals unions and members have stepped up for their colleagues and communities.

Following the murder of George Floyd, two Black leaders of the CFT, with long histories of fighting for racial equity, say they could not help being profoundly moved by the murder itself, and the outpouring of rage in response. "We have a basic expectation that we won't be murdered by the police."

We have simultaneously been dealing with a pandemic, the realities of institutional and personal racism, and the effects of extreme weather due to climate change.
