John,
Did you know that the general election has started and that more than 2 million people have already voted?
That’s right—voters have begun casting their ballots in states across the country (by mail and at early voting sites). They’re choosing to avoid the long lines and crowding at polling places on Election Day, and so should you!
Aside from making it possible to stay at home on Election Day, early voting:
- Eliminates the need to choose between your health and your vote during the pandemic
- Gives you time to confirm your voting information and research local races and ballot initiatives
- Eases the burden on mail ballots
- Enhances safety at the polls and spreads out voters
As a community of New Americans and people of color, it has never been more important to make our voices heard, which is why we must flex our political power and become October voters.
When we all vote, as Michelle Obama said, we “take our power back.” When we all vote, we fight back against white supremacy and the pale, stale, and male establishment attacking our rights and communities. When we all vote, we keep our democracy from hanging in the balance. And, if all of us do vote, we could very well change the outcome of the election.
If you don't have a plan to vote, make one today using our checklist. Then, after you've mailed in your ballot or made a plan to vote in-person, let us know on social media and we'll send you this "I voted in October" sticker to add to your photos!
Remember: Our democracy works better when everyone participates. To make it stronger and more inclusive, we all need to vote!
Yours in the movement,
Anne Flomenhaft
